In Yangon, capital of Myanmar took place a ceremony of installation the Blue Plaque on the building of the country's only "Masmeah Yeshua" synagogue. The Blue Plaque indicates that the synagogue is officially recognized as a part of Yangon’s historical heritage. Today, only 11 buildings in the capital of Myanmar have this status. The label was established in according with the decision of the organization "Yangon Heritage Trust". The Plaque was installed according the decision of "Yangon Heritage Trust".
The ceremony was attended by representatives of the authorities, the ambassadors of Israel and Canada in Myanmar, members the Jewish community (the EAJC member), the leaders of the Christian, Muslim, Buddhist and Baha'i communities.
The synagogue was built in the years 1893-1896 to replace the old wooden one of 1854. For more than 35 years, the Samuels family has taken care of the synagogue, cemetery, and the Jewish community in Yangon. “I am very proud and very excited for this Blue Plaque. It does not just show the architectural significance but also recognize the dedication of families and individuals to preserve their traditions and these buildings,” said Sammy Samuels, leader of Myanmar Jewish Community, member of the EAJC General Council.
